What if we could use existing and emerging technologies to extend the life of critical infrastructure like levees and improve their resilience in the face of extreme weather?

That’s exactly what CITRIS researchers, including UC Berkeley’s Kenichi Soga, are exploring in partnership with Yuba Water Agency and several local organizations responsible for maintaining Yuba County levees.

“How can we make our infrastructure smarter, not just in terms of materials, but in what we demand from our infrastructure?” said Soga. “That’s the spirit of this effort.”

The project is part of a partnership formalized last year with a memorandum of understanding between CITRIS, Yuba Water and the city of Wheatland.
